Henley paddlers help GB secure clutch of European medals

NINE paddlers from Henley Dragon Boat Club competed for the Great Britain team that won a clutch of medals at the 11th EDBF European Dragon Boat Nations Championships held in the Czech Republic.

In all four Henley paddlers were in the junior team, two in the premier, two in the seniors and one in the grand dragon boat.

All four GB teams were victorious in their quest for medals and Henley paddlers alone secured an impressive haul of 23 medals.

Vicky Bosley and Carolyn Lewisohn who made up part of the 12-strong premier ladies’ team won GB’s only gold medal in the 2,000m pursuit. This was followed up with two silver medals in the 200m and 500m sprint races.

In the junior category GB took silver in the open small boat 500m race which included Henley’s Adi Wakelin and Ben Rollinson, silver in the open small boat 200m race with Ed Pearson, Wakelin and Rollinson and a bronze in the mixed standard boat 2,000m pursuit with Kieron Minker, Pearson, Wakelin and Rollinson.
