PUPILS at the Robert Piggott junior school in Wargrave are warming up for the Olympics with a series of “Road to Rio” sports events.

Youngsters at the school in School Hill have taken part in sports including fencing, tri-golf and boccia, a ball game similar to bowls.

The sessions are run by Doug Arthur of Premier Sports, a children’s sports coaching company, and see pupils spend their mornings learning new games.

Meanwhile, the pupils have raised more than £190 for charity WaterAid. Last month, they each filled a container with water before walking to the nearby Mumbery nature reserve with it on their head and watering the reserve’s oak tree.

The money will go towards installing a pipeline at the Simango Basic School in Zambia.
