Riverside setting helps make for a school where boys can be boys

THE clear focus at Moulsford Prep School is on all-round achievement and helping boys to find their individual strengths and talents — most importantly in the classroom, but also on the sports field, in the performing and creative arts and more generally as considerate and well-mannered citizens who contribute positively to their community.

The curriculum is specifically designed to get the best out of boys, with plenty of practical and outdoor learning.

High expectations are set in terms of manners and discipline with clear boundaries provided.

Competitive sport is a vital element of a boy’s development at whatever age and level they are playing.

At Moulsford, the single-sex environment allows full advantage to be taken of the grounds and sports facilities with teams and coaching to suit all levels of ability.

Boys mainly join Moulsford in reception and year 3, although occasionally spaces become available in other year groups.

Flexi and weekly boarding is optional from year 5 (age 10) to help prepare those choosing senior boarding schools.

Moulsford prepares boys for a wide mix of both boarding and day, co-educational and single sex senior schools, either through the Common Entrance route or with a scholarship.

For those wishing to board, Moulsford boys go to Radley, Wellington, Marlborough, Eton, Harrow, St Edward’s Oxford, Bradfield, Winchester, Millfield, Stowe and Sherborne.

For those choosing a day school, Abingdon, Magdalen College Oxford, Pangbourne, Shiplake and the Oratory are the natural choices.

A measure of Moulsford’s success is the broad range of scholarships awarded each year. For 2016, there were five to Abingdon School with a range of academic, sports and music awards, four to Radley College across academic, sports and all-rounder awards, three to Wellington College across academic and sports awards and one all-rounder to Bradfield College.

The “Wind in the Willows” riverside setting of Moulsford Prep School, surrounded by 30 acres of grounds, provides an idyllic environment for an  all-boys prep school and a different dimension to school life.

Adventurous activities abound, with Forest School for pre-prep and an indoor climbing wall, among others.

Boys really can be boys at Moulsford and they take full advantage of their natural surroundings.

A daily bus service runs to and from Shiplake and Henley.
