First female head of college at Shiplake

SHIPLAKE College has appointed its first female head of college in its 57-year history

SHIPLAKE College has appointed its first female head of college in its 57-year history.

Emily Wilkinson took over from Greg Cooke at the end-of-year prize-giving ceremony.

As girls only join the college in year 12, it has been traditional for the head’s position to go to one of the boys.

However, the college said Emily had shown commitment, enthusiasm and tenacity throughout year 12, displaying academic prowess and becoming heavily involved with co-curricular activities, earning her the respect of her peers. Emily said: ‘I’m really excited about this challenge.

“It shows that the college is really keeping up with the times, ensuring that there are equal opportunities for both boys and girls.

“I was so shocked to hear that I got the position. I was convinced that I hadn’t done enough but I’m really grateful to Shiplake for putting their faith in me.

“I’m looking forward to paying that back by working hard alongside deputy head Henry Blois-Brooke.”
