School bus smartcard

A NEW payment system has been introduced for pupils of Chiltern Edge School who get the bus to the Reades Lane secondary.

Reading Buses has launched its new silverstars fleet for school services.

Students will be able to buy a new electronic smartcard to pay for the service, either annually or term-by-term.

Tony Pettitt, chief finance and information officer for Reading Buses, said: “We have also taken the opportunity to simplify things.

“Rather than having different prices depending on when the pass is bought or whether the customer pays by direct debit or in advance, we now have one price for each product.

“We have also removed the morning/afternoon only passes and instead have introduced the silversaver 10 that will allow parents to buy single trips in batches of 10 which will be cheaper than the on-bus fare for that service.”

All the buses have free wi-fi and CCTV on board.
