Music is just one of the extras on offer

Music is just one of the extras on offer
THIS week, life at Rupert House School began with a varied and exciting musical concert. The orchestra opened the concert with a well-recognised tune with a twist — Three Blind Mice and a Friend. They then played a melody from the song Morning is Come, which the chamber choir taught to the school, and the first part of the concert was rounded off with a hearty singalong by the audience, accompanied by the orchestra.

The advanced recorder group played three pieces, the favourite being Mamma Mia, which had the audience dancing in their seats. In addition to this, they were treated to solos by Amelie Judge on the piano, Millie Hughes on the soprano saxophone, Sophia Palmer on the clarinet and Freya Bradbury on the harp. The morning finished with a magical performance of Lin Marsh’s Lady Dressed in White by the chamber choir. The piece was more than a song, however — it was an atmospheric retelling of the story of a ghostly lady who vainly searched night after night for her lost love.

Rupert House has an enviable academic reputation and sends children to the most prestigious senior schools. Besides its excellent academic reputation, Rupert House School is keen to develop musical and dramatic talent and there are numerous opportunities for pupils to perform, both within the school and to external audiences. Peripatetic teachers offer tuition in piano, cello, violin, viola, harp, saxophone and flute. The musical clubs on offer for pupils include music makers, recorders, advanced recorders, lower school choir, upper school choir, chamber choir and orchestra.

In addition, a wide range of extracurricular activities is on offer to ensure a truly holistic education. These are designed to stimulate the imagination, offering new and exciting experiences and challenges. These activities take place before, during and after school. Some of the sporting activities that pupils enjoy include martial arts, football, netball, hockey, rounders, cricket, cross country running, dance, tennis and swimming.

Vibrant and innovative artwork enhances and supports the learning environment throughout the school. The love of art and craft is further enhanced through a number of creative clubs which include sketching, art club, Manga art, art scholarship classes, Art Attack, art and craft, puppet making and gardening.
