THE Abbey School is a vibrant and welcoming community of 1,100 girls aged from three to 18 years.
Unrivalled academic excellence is achieved in a warm and supportive environment and an exceptional extracurricular programme enables girls to discover their passions and develop their talents. A balanced and positive approach to life and learning ensures that girls go on to lead successful, fulfilling lives.
The Abbey is consistently one of the country’s top-performing schools academically. In 2013, 52 per cent of GCSE papers received an A* grade (85 per cent A*/A). At A-level 95 per cent of papers were graded A* to B. The Abbey Sixth Form offers students the opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma as an alternative to A-levels and in 2014 the average point score was 38 points — for context, conditional offers from the University of Oxford start at 38 points, so to achieve an average score at this level is testament to The Abbey’s world-class delivery of the IB Diploma programme. Students go on to study a range of courses at prestigious universities throughout the UK and overseas, with 85 per cent of sixth form students taking up places at the Russell Group of universities in 2013.
From nursery to sixth form, the school’s ethos is centred on empowering girls to become confident, independent and enthusiastic learners. Outside the classroom extracurricular opportunities play an important part in the school community, with music, drama, art and sport plus myriad interest clubs contributing to a happy, energetic atmosphere that is highly valued by our girls.
The Abbey nursery is a warm and welcoming environment for our youngest girls where they are supported as they take their first steps in developing a love of learning that will stay with them for life. Bright and stimulating classrooms and abundant outside space to explore help the girls develop their independence and confidence in these important early stages.
