Space to think, read, study and research

Construction of Shiplake College’s latest development project is due for completion over the summer, ready for term starting in September 2014.

The John Turner Building will house the music department, complete with two ensemble classrooms, seven practice rooms and a recording studio, the art department with three large fit-for-purpose rooms for 3D and 2D art work, and the learning development department, with five seminar rooms and a classroom.

There will be a lecture theatre for 140 people, which will provide the perfect platform for intimate musical recitals, a programme of visiting speakers and for use on many other occasions.

In addition, there will be a modern study centre, to be known as the Thinking Space, where pupils of all ages will study, collaborate and research.

The Thinking Space has been designed as a library for the digital age, which will best serve pupils entering further education and searching for employment in 2020 and beyond. It will complement the college’s online e-library, from which pupils and staff are already able to download a large collection of titles on to any device.
