Writer visits college

COMIC book writer and artist Neill Cameron visited Icknield Community College in Watlington for its World Book Day celebrations.

Mr Cameron gave a talk and held workshops with pupils on Thursday last week.

He said: “My talk was trying to give them some ideas about comics because a lot of kids these days don’t grow up with comics the way we did. It’s a really exciting way of reading stories and telling your own stories.

“Comics, by their nature, can be very good as a way into reading for people who are not yet very confident readers or haven’t yet found a book to engage their interest.

“Your reading skills are improving without it feeling off-putting or feeling like hard work. They’re a really strong way into reading and an exciting way into reading for kids.”
