School is county champion for eighth year

A SCHOOL in Henley has won the Oxfordshire cross-country championships for primary schools for the eighth year running.

More than 600 runners from 26 schools took part in the event, which was held at Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common.

Trinity School in Vicarage Road won with an overall score of 147 points. The school’s year 1 boys came third in their races, while the year 4 boys came second and the year 6 girls won first place overall. The combined total put the school ahead of Wantage and Long Furlong by a margin of 25 points.

Jo Lock, sports co-ordinator at Trinity, said: “Winning this competition for the eighth time isn’t just luck. We have some very talented but mostly very committed and determined competitors of whom we are enormously proud.”

The results were as follows:

Year 1 girls: 1. Frankie Scrivener, Wychwood primary; 2. Izzy Haines-Gray, Headington primary; 3. Freya Blake, RAF Benson primary.

Year 1 boys: 1. Thomas Ferguson, Rupert House School, Henley; 2. Jacob King, Peppard primary; 3. Alexander Clark, Trinity.

Year 2 girls: 1. Charlotte Ashby, Nettlebed Community School; 2. Annabel Jonkers, St Mary’s School, Henley; 3. Matilda Riggott, Rupert House.

Year 2 boys: 1. Lawrence Guy-Wilkes, Kidmore End primary; 2. Luca Thomson, Trinity; 3. Finnbar Scott, Sacred Heart primary, Henley.

Year 3 girls: 1. Darcey Dryden, Rupert House; 2. Mary Prince; 3. Clemmie Thorpe, both Stoke Row primary.

Year 3 boys: 1. Ted Carter, Trinity; 2. Luke Burgess, Long Furlong primary; 3. Harvey Doyle, Shiplake primary.

Year 4 girls: 1. Amelia Riggold; 2. Claudia Kerry Rogers; 3. Annabel Harris, all Rupert House.

Year 4 boys: 1. Max Jelowitz; 2. Elio Babb, both Peppard primary; 3. Josh Cumberland, Wantage primary.

Year 5 girls: 1. Nicola Lee, Stoke Row primary; 2. Emily Gray; 3. Sabiya Fillah, both Headington primary.

Year 5 boys: 1. Ben Cumberland, Wantage primary; 2. James Sarson, Sonning Common primary; 3. Monty Heath, St Mary’s.

Year 6 girls: 1. Alexandra Scrivener, Wychwood primary; 2. Becky Barry, Trinity; 3. Hermione Jewell, Radley primary.

Year 6 boys: 1. Cameron King, Millbrook primary; 2. Conner O’Leary, Wantage primary; 3. Joey Loughlin, St Amand’s primary.
