Head defends school plan for floodlit artificial pitch

THE headteacher of Langtree School has defended plans to build a floodlit artificial sports pitch.

The academy in Reading Road, Woodcote, is to submit a planning application for the £200,000 project to South Oxfordshire District Council.

The pitch would be built on land behind the school which currently serves as a running track and would have six 10m high floodlight columns.

It would measure 60m by 40m, about a quarter of full size, meaning it could accommodate seven-a-side games of adult football and hockey.

Woodcote Parish Council has objected, saying neighbours would be disturbed in the evening by noise and light from the site and the pitch would be too small for many sports clubs.
