Children use tree for art surprise

CREATIVE pupils at Sonning Common Primary School had a hoot with their latest art project.

Twenty-five children from the school’s art club used logs from a tree in the school grounds which had been cut down to create a sculpture to brighten up the area outside reception.

Liz Steele, who runs the club, chopped the tree into sections which the children then painted to look like owls.

Charlie Hayward, 10, said: “We drew designs and put them on to the wood using graphite sticks and then we painted over the top.”

Charlie took part in this year’s Henley Youth Festival art exhibition and was a joint winner in the group category for teaching the rest of the club how to draw superheroes.
