Girl, five, becomes headteacher for a day

A SCHOOLGIRL was the envy of her classmates when she became headteacher for the day.

Five-year-old Tilly Makkar stepped into Helen Jones’ shoes at Trinity School in Vicarage Road, Henley. where she is in her first year.

Her tasks included holding an assembly where points were presented to Gainsborough House for good manners and achievements in class, organising a fire drill when she had to tell off some of the older children for being noisy and marking pupils’ work and scoring their behaviour.

She also signed off two requests for new equipment from staff and attended a meeting of the school council and another about health and safety.

Tilly, whose parents Kate and Sundeep won the prize at the Friends of Trinity School’s fundraising Bollywood Ball in March, said she enjoyed the experience. Mrs Jones, who joined the school in September, said: “Tilly has done such a fantastic job I am fearful I’ve lost my position here.
