Pre-school recovers after theft

A HENLEY pre-school that was almost forced to close after having more than £8,000 stolen says it is now on the road to recovery.

A number of improvements have been made at Badgemore Pre-School in Hop Gardens since Lucy Robinson was appointed manager six months ago. These are designed to put the children first.

The pre-school, which was founded 30 years ago and caters for two- to four-year-olds, nearly shut in August following the theft of £8,313 from its bank account by bookkeeper Karina Skidmore.

In April, Skidmore, of Mount View, Henley, was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for a year, at Oxford Crown Court after admitting theft.

The court heard that she was responsible for paying staff wages as well as cheques and invoices and stole the money to pay her rent and buy food for her two young children.
