Pupils decide their own children’s literature awards
STUDENTS at the Piggott School in Wargrave held their own book awards.
They selected from a list of nominees for the the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Awards for children’s books and were joined by students from the Forest School in Winnersh and The Holt School in Wokingham.
The group of 42 children chose as their winner The Day The Crayons Quit written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. The story is about some crayons that refuse to be used to colour any more pictures.
Certificates for outstanding contribution were presented to some of the students before the children were split into groups to create their own picture books based on the nominees.
Piggott teacher Chris McGinnity, who organised the event, said: “It was a culmination of all the work they have done reading the books this term. Everyone was really enthusiastic and enjoyed producing their own books.
