Time to apply for school places

PARENTS of children due to start primary or secondary school in September next year can now apply for places online.

Oxfordshire County Council says it will still accept postal applications but recommends that families apply online as it helps to speed up the applications process.

Those who apply online will receive an email on allocation day informing them of the outcome of their application. The deadline for primary and junior school applications is January 15 and the deadline for secondary school applications is October 31. Postal application forms and information booklets are available from schools and nurseries.

Melinda Tiller, cabinet member for education, said: “It is important that parents apply for a school place on time as this increases the chance that we will be able to offer them a place at a school among their preferences.”

This year, the council offered first-preference places to almost 90 per cent of children starting primary school and more than 90 per cent of secondary school applicants. For more information, visit www.oxfordshire.gov.uk
