Pupils on form at Rotary speaking event

THREE pupils from Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning have reached the third round of Rotary?s Youth Speaks competition.

THREE pupils from Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning have reached the third round of Rotary?s Youth Speaks competition.

Matthew Roberts, Timothy Forrer and Elliot Morris saw off competition from three other schools in the intermediate category at the zone final in Marlow, having already won the local heat at the Kenton Theatre in Henley the previous week. The trio, all 14, reprised their speech Get Your Geek On, which took a humorous look at ?geek? culture. They will now compete in the district finals in Maidenhead on March 20.

Louisa Carlisle, Jake Smith and Mattieu Gougeon, all 17 and from The Henley College, took part in the senior group competition with a political speech called Party Or Country?.The other schools to take part were St Mary?s School, Gerrards Cross, Wycombe High School, Claires Court School, Maidenhead, and the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe.

The Henley teams were sponsored by Henley Rotary Club and supported by club vice-president Barry Prior and Tony Searby, an adjudicator.
