RUGBY players at The Henley College were greeted by a TV news cameraman recently, with the squad and its recent successes set to feature on ITV’s Meridian News.

The students, all part of The Henley College/London Wasps AASE squad were filmed training at Henley Rugby Club and several spoke on camera about their individual experiences and the achievements of the group.

Highlights have included a visit to Georgia for a match against the U18 International side in February, and a recent victory in the Plate Competition at the Windsor Schoolboy Sevens Tournament. A growing number of players have also received international call-ups, across a range of levels, with some going on to play professionally. Others have continued to pursue rugby whilst at leading universities such as Bath.

Student Jake Elias said: “The boys were so excited as they were going to be on TV. I was asked if I came here for the rugby and explained that I played for Henley and joined the development squad, I worked hard and have enjoyed playing at the highest schoolboy level in the country.”
