FIVE pupils from the Oratory Prep School in Goring Heath came top in a nationwide quiz.

FIVE pupils from the Oratory Prep School in Goring Heath came top in a nationwide quiz.

Tommy Hogan, Chris Potter, George Newton, Sam Christie and Max Khan took home the trophy in Oxford and Magdalen College School’s annual challenge.

The boys, who are in years 7 and 8, beat teams from 23 other independent prep schools from across Oxfordshire.

They faced six rounds on subjects including history, science, general knowledge and popular culture. This was followed by a final quick-fire round. The school will keep the trophy, which has been engraved with the Oratory’s name, for a year. A school spokeswoman said: “The winning chants of ‘we are the Oratory, the mighty, mighty Oratory’ could be heard for miles as the minibus full of delighted pupils made its way back to Goring Heath.”

Meanwhile, another Oratory Prep pupil reached the final of a national maths competition.

Lloyd Langley, who is in year 6, was ranked in the top one per cent of the 70,000 entrants to this year’s Mathematical Association Primary Maths Challenge.

In the final, he had to solve 25 maths puzzles in only 45 minutes.
