THE Oratory School’s cadet unit has become part of the Welsh Guards.
The partnership was launched with a parade at the independent boys’ secondary in Woodcote yesterday.
About 100 members of the regiment, including a 40-piece marching band, took part in the ceremony alongside pupils.
The cadets were inspected by old Oratorian Colonel Tom Bonas, a former Welsh Guards adjutant.
Also present were Lieutenant-Colonel Dino Bossi, the regiment’s commanding officer, and Brigadier Mark Van der Lande, the UK’s director of cadets.
The combined cadet force, which celebrates its centenary this year, is the first in England to be affiliated with the Guards.
The arrangement was struck by the Oratory’s headmaster Clive Dytor, who was a captain in the Royal Marines.
