CHILDREN from Chiltern Edge School went on a day trip to France.

The 89 year seven pupils travelled by Eurotunnel to Calais. They visited Colonne de la grand Armée on the outskirts of Boulogne, which was built in the 1840s and was the base camp where Napoleon massed his army ready to invade England.

They also toured a boulangerie, where pupils learned to make croissants, a chocolaterie and Hardelot Plage coast. Some pupils tested their French skills by interviewing passers-by.

Modern languages teacher Marion Shipton said it was the first trip abroad for some of the pupils.

“This trip was not just for their language learning but was an invaluable experience for our youngsters,” she said.
