New free school seeking first head

A NEW primary school in Caversham has begun recruiting a headteacher.

A NEW primary school in Caversham has begun recruiting a headteacher.

The Heights Primary School is set to open in September next year after plans for the free school were approved by the Department of Education.

An open morning for prospective candidates will be held on August 31 and September 7 at Caversham Primary School in Hemdean Road, from 10am to 12pm.

Interviews will be held at the end of September and the successful candidate will begin work at April 2014. He or she will design the school’s policies and plans and recruit the rest of the staff.

Ruth Rosewell, director of the Heights Primary Trust, said: “We are looking forward to recruiting an inspirational, dynamic headteacher to deliver exceptional standards of education and who can recruit a team of talented teachers dedicated to achieving high standards and excellence in education.”

The trust hopes the school will be within walking distance of pupils’ homes. A possible site is land belonging to the Mapledurham Estate but if a suitable building is not identified in time, temporary classrooms will be used.

In its first year, the school will have classes from reception age to year three and then expand to year six.
