THE chairman of governors at Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre in Emmer Green has stood down.

Crispin Fairbairn has been a governor for 10 years and chairman for the past six.

In statement, the school said: “The achievements made at Highdown during his tenure are remarkable.

“He has been a great chairman, very professional and human, and he has served the school and its community exceptionally well and with great dedication.

“These qualities and his dry sense of humour, even when times have been challenging and difficult, make him a pleasure to work with and we shall miss him.”

Mr Fairbairn oversaw a number of milestone events at the school during his tenure, including the building of the new school hall and the awarding of academy status in 2010.

He was also involved in the appointment of headteacher Rachel Cave last year.
