CHILTERN EDGE is a small, friendly school with a strong academic tradition and was judged “Good” by Ofsted in September 2012.

The school provides students of all abilities with an appropriate and challenging curriculum.

All needs are supported and they have an excellent programme to encourage gifted and talented students. The majority of the school’s students progress to The Henley College, with large numbers moving on to university.

Their philosophy centres firmly on providing excellent personalised support for students.

Their students can experience a wide range of cultural, sporting and extracurricular activities both at home and abroad, including skiing, camping, canoeing and mountain walking.

The school offers exchanges and visits to France and Germany, which support their long tradition of teaching modern foreign languages.

They have an outward-looking curriculum and strong international links. They have also been awarded the International Schools Award.

Sport is an important part of the curriculum with fixtures in rugby, football, badminton, hockey, netball, athletics, rounders and cricket. Sports staff encourage players at county and national level. A number of students row at Reading Rowing Club through the school’s link with the club, and they work in partnership with national governing bodies in rowing and cycling. Already Chiltern Edge students have represented Great Britain at Junior. Under 23 and Olympic level.

At Chiltern Edge, education for citizenship is important. Each year students arrange fund-raising activities, contributing thousands of pounds to local charities. Their record of community service in the local area is strong. Students learn about their rights and the responsibilities that go with them.

Public speaking is a strength of the school, with all students participating. Each year they have a number of drama and music productions and enjoy excellent drama facilities in the purpose-built studio.

They have a new library and their excellent ICT facilities are continually being upgraded.

Chiltern Edge has strong links with their primary, secondary and tertiary partners. This partnership ensures high-quality education for all students across 13 years of education, making it the local school for the Sonning Common area and offering a distinctive choice for parents in Caversham and North Reading.
