Eye expert visits pupils

Denning Montessori children welcomed an eye expert to talk to them as part of national eye health week.

Jane Maskell, a qualified Optometrist who works in medical education, told them how to care for their eyes.

The children used props to see and feel the shape of the eye, learn how to protect from bright light, and how to eat well to enhance good eye health.

Ms Maskell also brought with her a platter of fruit and vegetables in a collage of an eye for them to tuck into.

She said: “It was lovely to be teaching young children and they were very receptive to information. We have one pair of eyes for life so it is important to understand how to look after them now.”

Founder and principal Jenny Blain said: “We would like to thank Jane for giving up her time to come into the school we all learnt a lot and parents too are now more aware of how important it is to get their children’s eyes checked, and when outdoors protect from bright light.”
