New head praised as school receives ‘good’ rating

STOKE ROW School has been rated as “good” in all areas following an inspection by the education watchdog.

STOKE ROW School has been rated as “good” in all areas following an inspection by the education watchdog.

Ofsted inspector Louise Adams visited the village primary in November and found that standards had risen significantly.

Over the past year, the school has had a number of improvements, including a new teaching block for pupils in the foundation stage and key stage one, a new curriculum and a new website. Headteacher Charlotte Harris said the inspector’s report reflected the core values of the school and highlighted the strong relationship between pupils, staff, parents and the community.

Ms Adams wrote: “Pupils value their school highly and feel lucky to be part of such a close-knit community, where all pupils look after and play with each other.”

On early years provision, she said: “The teacher and teaching assistants know the children very well and use every opportunity to develop the children’s knowledge of letters and numbers.” Miss Harris, who was appointed a year ago, was praised for her leadership.

The report said: “The headteacher’s determination and passion mean the school is securely good. Staff, pupils and parents speak highly of the positive difference she has made to the culture of the school.

“Under her leadership, standards have improved, the school site is more secure and there is well-developed communication between the school and community it serves.” The report said all the staff contributed to improving the school while the teaching assistants were “a strength”.

Parent Lou Chater said: “I am utterly delighted with the school and cannot praise the staff highly enough for making my daughter’s transition from nursery to ‘big school’ a happy and exciting one. The school really is something special and I am so glad this has been recognised by Ofsted.”
