A PUPIL at the Oratory School in Woodcote has been awarded a Royal Air Force cadet

A PUPIL at the Oratory School in Woodcote has been awarded a Royal Air Force cadet flying scholarship.

Michael Merritt, 17, will be given 12 hours of sponsored training in a PA28 single-engine aeroplane at Tayside Aviation in Dundee.

He will be able to fly solo for some of this time and the course will form part of his attempt to obtain a private pilot’s licence.

The sixth-former, from Upper Basildon, is senior under officer of the school’s combined cadet force and leader of its RAF section.

Contingent commander Marland Green said: “This is a great opportunity for Michael, who has built on his flying and gliding experience gained in the school’s CCF.

“Competition for such places in immensely tough. The school is delighted that Michael has gained this and wishes him all the best in his flying career.”
