AN open garden and picnic event raised £1,000 for Bishopswood Special School in Sonning Common.

AN open garden and picnic event raised £1,000 for Bishopswood Special School in Sonning Common.

More than 100 people attended the event at Woodlands House in Wargrave Road, Henley, which included a woodland walk through the five-acre site. The event also featured afternoon tea with home-made cakes, games for children and a picture hunt. There were plants, produce and gifts for sale.

Organiser Nicki Hybert, a member of the Bishopswood School Association and former learning support assistant at the school, said: ?It?s a fantastic amount to raise, more than double what we reached last year. The money makes a massive difference to the children in terms of technology available to them, such as eye-gaze machines which they can use to communicate.?

She thanked Darren Barber, head gardener at Woodlands House, singer Barry Rosier for providing music and Beville estate agents for supporting the event.
