A TELEVISION presenter opened a new extension at a Caversham school on Monday.

Simon Thomas, of Sky Sports, cut the ribbon at Thameside Primary School, where the number of pupils has risen from 253 to 396 in the last six years, leading to a shortage of classroom and other space. The extension comprises a classroom, a new staffroom, several break-out spaces, a group room, a new office for the deputy head and working spaces for teachers.

Building work at the Harley Road school started a year ago and was completed in time for the start of the new school year. It was carried out by Whitescape in conjunction with Reading Borough Council.
