Ten pupils from Shiplake College were chosen to be ball boys for pool matches at the International Defence Rugby Competition which took place at RAF Halton last month. The competition featured 12 military teams, made up of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. The pupils were accompanied by head of lower school Paul Jones and director of rugby Sam Beckett. The accolade was in recognition of their commitment to rugby at Shiplake so far this term. The pupils helped with the smooth running of the matches between Tonga and Georgia and South Africa versus the RAF. Mr Jones said: “They were a credit to Shiplake College and were entirely professional throughout the day. We were very lucky to witness such high-quality rugby with several of the military teams featuring full international players. We are extremely grateful to Wg Cdr Gordon Ferguson, one of our lower school parents, for offering us this unique opportunity.”
