Nice touch

A group of year 12 sports scholars from Shiplake College visted Twickenham to practice touch rugby

A group of year 12 sports scholars from Shiplake College visted Twickenham to practice touch rugby and meet some famous players. Henry Birdsey, Ross Johnstone, Miles Bridgman and Hassan Rubbani, who all play for the 1st XV, were accompanied by head of rugby Sam Beckett. The visit was arranged with O2 Touch, an arm of the Rugby Football Union, which is trying to increase the popularity of touch rugby in schools, and Shiplake is one of 12 schools which are piloting the scheme. After playing, the boys were given a tour of the grounds and changing rooms and then enjoyed a question and answer session with international sevens players Phil Burgess and Dan Norton. Ross Johnstone said it was a “fantastic” day out, adding: “We&rsquore looking forward to helping touch rugby become a bigger sport, developing skills and getting more people involved.”
