A TREE was stolen after being felled by high winds.
The beech in Bear Wood, between Highmoor and Stoke Row, was blown over by high winds on December 23, blocking Colmore Lane, Witheridge Hill.
The landowner chopped the tree up and left the pieces by the side of the lane but when he returned to fetch them on Thursday last week he found they had been stolen.
The sections of trunk weighed about half a tonne so a vehicle must have been used to take them away.
Pc Paul Hewitt, of Henley police, appealed for witnesses, saying: “Where the wood was stolen from is next to a public right of way that is popular with walkers, dog walkers and cyclists, especially over the holiday period. Anyone seeing someone chopping up a tree with a chainsaw may have remembered it.”
