Van driver spat in attendant’s face over ticket

A VAN driver who parked in a Henley street without a permit spat in a parking attendant’s face, a court heard.

Jack Schofield had left his white Ford transit van in a residents-only bay outside the Catherine Wheel pub in Hart Street when it was spotted by James Churchill-Coleman, who was on patrol.

The council attendant started writing an excess charge notice when he heard a man swear at him and shout “you’re not booking my van” before running towards him, Oxford Magistrates’ Court heard.

Mr Churchill-Coleman told Schofield he needed a permit and would pay only £20 instead of £40 if he paid immediately but Schofield got into the van and spat in his face through the open window before driving off.

He pulled into Bell Street, a one-way street, reversed and drove back into Hart Street where he stopped to allow a woman to get in before driving away.
