Fire station in appeal for recruits after eight leave

TWO-THIRDS of Wargrave’s firefighters have left in the past two years.

If one of the remaining four retained firefighters was to resign, the Victoria Road station would no longer be allowed to respond to 999 calls.

However, watch manager Dave Piercy says he is confident the station’s future is secure and is appealing for new recruits to come forward.

Mr Piercy has served at the station for 25 years and is currently supported by Jason Cunningham, Patrick Scarry and James Friar.

He said: “It’s getting a bit close for comfort but the four guys we have are very loyal and keen.
