Thief went to meet police on stolen bike

A MAN has been jailed after arriving for a meeting with police on a stolen bicycle.

Jamie Clarke, 24, of Gainsborough Hill, Henley, was already serving a 12-month suspended sentence for theft.

He used to meet police regularly in a bid to stop him re-offending but when he turned up at Didcot police station on Tuesday last week he admitted taking a bicycle from the town’s post office on May 13.

Clarke was held in custody overnight and was sentenced to 13 months in prison at Banbury Magistrates’ Court the next day. In May last year, he was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year, after admitting stealing from the Three Tuns pub in Market Place, Henley, twice in two days.

Clarke was caught on CCTV stealing an MP3 player and £40 in tips while he was working at the pub as a cleaner.
