A SAFE containing thousands of pounds in cash was stolen in a raid on Greys Court during Saturday night.
It is thought a gang with a vehicle was behind the theft as the safe weighs around 500lbs when empty and was full of takings, much of it in coins.
The raiders broke into the tractor shed at the National Trust property near Rotherfield Greys using hand tools they found.
They took a sack truck which they wheeled to the main office before smashing their way inside.
The gang ransacked the office and loaded the safe on to the truck before escaping with it as well as a wallet belonging to a member of staff, a holdall and a set of keys. The safe was locked electronically so they were unable to break into it at the scene.
