Restaurant manager is cleared of assault

THE former manager of a Henley restaurant has been cleared of assaulting a man in a row over a table not being available.

Riccardo Bersella, who used to run Strada in Bell Street, burst into tears in the dock at Oxford Crown Court after being found not guilty of causing actual bodily harm to George Wood.

The jury took just over an hour to reach their verdict on Wednesday following a three-day trial.

Mr Bersella, 51, of Henley Road, Caversham, had denied assaulting Mr Wood outside the restaurant on Saturday, June 30 2012.

The court heard that this was during Henley Royal Regatta and the restaurant was busy when 27-year-old Mr Wood, from London, arrived at Strada with his girlfriend Abigail Lawler for a meal at about 8.30pm.
