Call for removal of ‘robot’ cameras

RESIDENTS have protested at the installation of surveillance cameras at Shiplake level crossing.

Three petitions have gathered more than 200 signatures calling on Network Rail to reduce the size of the two orange machines or take them away altogether.

The cameras have been described as looking like “orange robots” on poles and are said to be inappropriate in a rural setting.

Mark Harvey, owner of the Corner Shop in Station Road, has a petition with more than 100 names.

Hannah Bird, deputy manager of the Baskerville Arms in Station Road, said: “The cameras look out of place as they are ridiculously big.
