THREE people were taken to hospital after a head-on collision between a bus and a van.
The accident happened on a stretch of the A4074 between Chazey Heath and Cane End shortly after 8pm on Monday.
Firefighters had to cut away the front of the Thames Travel bus to free the driver, who was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading with serious injuries.
The 15 bus passengers were assessed by paramedics and a 22-year-old man who had suffered a head injury was taken by ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford together with the man who was driving the van.
Another three passengers needed treatment at the scene. A spokesman for Thames Travel said: “The bus driver’s actions prevented a more serious accident. Our thoughts go out to him and the passengers that were involved in this accident.”
