FIREFIGHTERS spent more than three hours tackling a blaze at a pub in Chazey Heath today.

Five crews were called to the Packsaddle Inn, off the A4074 Woodcote Road, at 4.30am.

Owners Marian and Lyndon Sheehan were asleep on the first floor when they were woken up by a smoke alarm and got out of the building before dialling 999.

By the time the firefighters arrived, the fire had taken hold in the roof of the bar.

After extinguishing the flames, they used infra-red cameras to find hot spots and hose them down. The fire was out by 7.45am.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire investigators were expected to be on the scene for the rest of today.

A full story will appear in this week’s Henley Standard.
