Derrick Cowley, 20, of Basingstoke Road, Reading, also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to police when he appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. He is due to appear in court again next month.

He was granted bail on the condition that he doesn’t contact Barrie Angell, the 69-year-old referee from Caversham, who was punched in the face after the game between New England and SC United Reserves at Bishopswood Recreation Ground in Sonning Common in November.
