Thief selling home to pay back £8,000 she stole

A WOMAN who stole £8,000 in cash from a house in Shiplake is selling her home to pay the money

A WOMAN who stole £8,000 in cash from a house in Shiplake is selling her home to pay the money back, a court was told.

Helen Kupiec, 60, of Hazel Road, Purley, has put her property on the market and plans to live in rented accommodation, Oxford Crown Court heard.

Kupiec had pleaded guilty to stealing from Mary Jane Pugsley’s house on September 25 and November 13 last year.

Jonathan Stone, prosecuting, said she had been cautioned for theft from her employer in 2009. She was caught stealing £500 after hidden cameras were installed.

Nadia Chabat, for Kupiec, said she had a history of depression and had been taking anti-depressants for months.

She was also recently admitted to hospital after collapsing and was still suffering from “a number of medical issues”.

Judge Ian Pringle QC adjourned the case until June 6 for a report to be prepared.

He told Kupiec: “It is in your interest to co-operate with the author of that report when they come to visit you.

“You should not read into my adjourning the case that you may not receive a prison sentence. All options are open.”
