SEVENTEEN drivers were issued with fixed penalty fines in the fortnight after double yellow lines were re-painted in Watlington at the start of this month.

Oxfordshire County Council agreed to repaint the lines in Couching Street and High Street after the police told the parish council that they were unable to enforce parking restrictions.

Ian Hill, chairman of Watlington Parish Council, said: “I think the message will get out that it is no longer safe to park on double yellow lines.”
