Travellers moved on from Cookley Green

A GROUP of 20 travellers were moved on by police after they were spotted gathering on a village green.

They assembled in the centre of Cookley Green on Saturday afternoon accompanied by up to five horses and trailers.

Residents called the police and four community support officers were sent to the scene.

The travellers told officers they had come from Goring and were exercising their horses.

Swyncombe Parish Council chairwoman Elizabeth Longley, whose house overlooks the green, said: ?There was suddenly a lot of them up there and I wasn?t sure what was going on.

?I called the police but they said they were aware and were on their way. It felt slightly threatening - not because they were doing anything in particular, but everyone here is feeling slightly nervy at the moment.

?Dogs, cars and God knows what else have been disappearing, so when anything suspicious happens you think, ?my goodness, I hope this is allright?.?

The travellers left the village several hours later, heading south towards Henley. Later that day, they were seen at the top of Fair Mile, at the junction of the A4130 for Bix and the B480 for Lower Assendon.
