Man admits girl assault

A MAN from Henley has pleaded guilty to smacking a child under the age of 16.

A MAN from Henley has pleaded guilty to smacking a child under the age of 16.

Adam Tidbury, 21, of Leaver Road, admitted assaulting the girl, who can’t be named for legal reasons, at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The court was shown photographs that indicated Tidbury had caused the victim to bruise and had left fingerprint marks.

The incident happened in May and was reported to police by a headteacher at the girl’s school.

A transcript of a video interview with the girl was read out in which she said the smacking had made her cry.

Tidbury was said to have burst into tears when interviewed by police and immediately admitted smacking the child.

Jane Wilkinson, defending, said he had not wanted to hurt her.

She said: “It’s right he should be punished. It’s also right there should be room for rehabilitation.”

Tidbury, who has a previous conviction for racially aggravated common assault, will be sentenced on October 31 after a pre-sentence report has been compiled.
