A MAN who led police on a high-speed chase through Caversham has been jailed.
Jordan Downey drove at speeds of up to 68mph and on the wrong side of the road as well as going through red traffic lights during the chase, which lasted up to 15 minutes.
He was finally arrested after crashing his rented Peugeot 208 into a wall in Lowfield Road on November 25 last year. He fled but was quickly caught by police.
Downey, 20, of Dell Road, Tilehurst, was sentenced to eight months in prison and banned from driving for two years at Reading Crown Court after admitting aggravated vehicle theft.
The court heard that he told police he had fled because it was his birthday the next day and he did not want to spend it in a cell.
John Simmons, for Downey, said: ?He is still a very young man. That night showed he was a very young man thinking in the wrong way.?
Sentencing Downey, Judge Alexia Durran told him: ?Your thinking that night shows a high level of immaturity. Your driving that night led you down the road to prison.?
