A DRIVER sped off after colliding with the side of a fire engine in Henley.

A DRIVER sped off after colliding with the side of a fire engine in Henley.

The incident happened at about 6.30pm on Sunday as the fire crew returned to the fire station in West Street.

They had just reversed on to the station forecourt when the black Renault Clio pulled in alongside them as the young male driver appeared to be parking. A firefighter asked him to leave so he backed up to perform a three-point turn but lost control as he pulled forward again and hit the fire engine.

He then drove off despite incurring substantial damage to the front of his car.

A replacement fire engine was sent from Kidlington and police were informed.
