Nine years for burglar who carried a knife

A MAN has been jailed for nine years after forcing his way into a woman’s home

A MAN has been jailed for nine years after forcing his way into a woman’s home in Sonning and threatening her with a Stanley knife.

Oliver Wheeler, 26, of Green Lane, Godalming, Surrey, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday last week for aggravated burglary. It followed a two—day trial where he was convicted on May 15.

The burglary happened on January 6, 2014 and Wheeler was arrested the next day.

He forced his way into the victim’s home wearing a plastic suit with a hood, gloves and a mask. He threatened the 62—year—old occupant with the knife and stole money before running off.

The victim recognised Wheeler as someone who had previously fitted a new kitchen for her.

Investigating officer, Det Con Iain Watkinson from force CID in Reading, said: “I am pleased with the sentence handed down to Wheeler. This was a very frightening thing to happen to the victim.

“I hope a sentence for nine years will discourage others from believing they can carry out such crimes undetected. The case was helped by the bravery of the victim who recognised Wheeler as someone who had previously fitted a new kitchen.”
