Scouts nab bike thief

A BICYCLE thief was caught thanks to a new CCTV system installed at Henley scout hut.

A BICYCLE thief was caught thanks to a new CCTV system installed at Henley scout hut.

The suspect was apprehended within an hour of taking the bike from the building in Greys Road.

Richard Moyle, chairman of the Henley scouts’ executive committee, said: “The CCTV proved very useful.

“We took a snapshot from the video on a phone and then went around the neighbourhood asking our scout contacts.

“Somebody said ‘I know who that is’ and we approached him and he amicably returned the bike without the need to talk to the police.

“I was surprised how quickly we had a result.”

The four cameras were installed last month.

Mr Moyle said the group had experienced some incidents of minor vandalism and antisocial behaviour in its car park and fly-tipping on a bank at the rear of the hut.

The CCTV was paid for from group funds as well as a donation and a bequest.
