A MAN from Sonning Common has been given an indefinite restraining order after assaulting the mother of his two children.

Jamie McGarvey, 25, of Ashford Avenue, appeared at Oxford Magistrates? Court on Thursday last week for sentencing.

He had previously pleaded guilty to assault by beating of Jodie Trevethan at a property in Goodall Close, Henley, on March 21.

He was also given a one-year community order and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and £35 costs.

McGarvey was also ordered to pay £80 compensation for one count of criminal damage when he put Miss Trevethan?s mobile phone battery in a cup of water after forcing the device from her hands.

In June the court heard the couple had been in an on-off relationship for seven years and at the time of the offences were living together in Goodall Close.

They rowed when Miss Trevethan made a phone call to a male friend having originally planned to go out that evening but then deciding to stay in.

In her statement to police, Miss Trevethan said McGarvey tried to grab her phone from her hand while she was speaking to the man.

He told her: ?If you think you?re letting him near the kids you have got another think coming.?

Miss Trevethan was then locked out of the flat.
